The suspect, who was interrogated by the Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigation Department of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, stated in his remarks: "Before joining this group, I was a religious scholar in Iraq. One of my students is the son of Abu Muslim al-Turkmani, the head of the military branch of ISIS."
He noted that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of this group, ordered his allegiance to ISIS through this individual in 2012, and after receiving this message, he joined ISIS in Mosul.
He admitted to using the codename "Master Zaid" within this group and claimed to have served as the so-called Minister of Education after ISIS took control of Mosul in 2014.
This ISIS leader also mentioned that he later served as the "Minister of Justice."
The suspect stated that he could have been a leader in this group and even someone in the position of "Caliph," and that a person who was then the assistant to the Caliph had been under his command.
The suspect, who defended himself for about 6 hours in the presence of his lawyer, declared that he wants to benefit from the regulations of "repentance and reduced punishment."
