Russia and Turkey are working towards sidelining the use of the dollar in light of strengthening their economic cooperation.
According to a report by Yekta Economic Group, citing RT, it was emphasized during the meeting of the Presidents of Russia and Turkey on the sidelines of the Shanghai summit that part of Russia's export payments to Turkey should be made in rubles.
The President of Russia stated in a statement that we are fully prepared to increase our supply in all areas that benefit both countries. Our agreement concerns the supply of natural gas to Turkey, where it is intended that 25 percent of the payment will be made in rubles, and this agreement will be implemented in the near future.
Previously, there were reports indicating that Erdogan had expressed his willingness to import gas from Russia on the condition of a 25 percent discount.
According to this report, which Bloomberg quoted from senior Turkish officials, Erdogan also expressed his readiness to pay part of the import cost in lira.
