Final Station: Extraction of Gas from the Black Sea

Melih Han Bilgin, the General Director of the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO), stated that there will be no disruptions in the operation of the Black Sea gas until the end of this year, adding that we have reached the final stage of this project.

Bilgin mentioned that work being done at sea, marine transmission lines, seabed infrastructure, and onshore production facilities is progressing rapidly. Emphasizing that they are working diligently towards the goal of operating the Black Sea gas by March 2023, he said, "Currently, there are no disruptions in the planned activities. We are close to the final phase of the work, and the implementation of startup tests for the last facilities is being carried out step by step."

Bilgin noted that Turkey has a business plan in the Mediterranean Sea, saying, "We will plan our next objective depending on whether exploration is conducted in Taşucu or not, but it is still too early to say anything about Taşucu. However, we have not yet reached this goal."

The efforts for further exploration continue with strength. Bilgin stated that TPAO has achieved significant successes in both production and the addition of crude oil reserves in recent years, adding, "We are intensifying our work here. We have goals for drilling a well. Our explorations are continuing vigorously."

"We are working with the Gabar-1 and Gabar-2 wells as well as new exploratory wells to develop the Asma Choyik field and also to seek opportunities across the entire region." Bilgin pointed out that Turkey has a substantial need for crude oil and natural gas, saying, "Our crude oil production to consumption ratio is about 10 percent, and for natural gas, it's below 1 percent. Our natural gas deficit is even greater. In fact, Turkey has the opportunity to free itself from imports with new discoveries, along with the costs incurred for energy inputs."

"We have intensified our efforts towards Turkey's energy independence and will continue our efforts." Bilgin added that the Filius natural gas processing facility is one of the largest gas processing facilities in Europe, constructed over just 10 months with round-the-clock work, and many systems have been implemented while final work is currently underway.

"Turkey's largest natural gas processing facility will soon be operational," Bilgin highlighted, noting that Turkish technicians and engineers are working diligently at the Filius natural gas processing facility. "I hope that Turkey's largest natural gas processing plant will be inaugurated in the near future."

"In fact, we will prepare this process alongside Turkish engineers and technicians."

"A significant industrial experience has been gained and nationalized, and as we may have the opportunity to assess these individuals in later stages of the project, with the experiences we've gained here, we have the chance to undertake other projects abroad."

Bilgin added that they have received requests from oil companies and various regions of the world regarding this matter, and that groups, companies, and governments from Malaysia to Brazil are interested and want to collaborate with them. Source: TRT
