Sila: I dropped out of university to sing jazz

Sila says her passion for music began at the age of three, when she first realized her talent while singing a song she had memorized from the radio.

Sila, noting that she was quite mischievous in school and not a diligent student, said: “I loved French class. After a year of studying French language and literature at Istanbul University, I realized I wanted to pursue music, so I dropped out and started singing jazz.
Seventh and eighth-grade students, Sila Gençoğlu, the orchestra leader, and Burak Erkoul, the composer, gathered to discuss music and their views on art, as well as the impact of technology on music and art.

When asked how she got into music, Sila mentioned that the journey began after her mother noticed a song she had heard on the radio and memorized at the age of three.
Sila remarked that while she was at school, she was very mischievous and not a hard-working student, although she loved her French class and, as she puts it, chased after mischief.
She stated that after a year of studying French language and literature at Istanbul University, she realized she wanted to devote herself to music and dropped out to pursue jazz.

Sila stated, "We grew up with the saying, 'One hand helps, and the other does not see,'" and added, "Artists must take the lead due to their visibility in all areas of society." She also mentioned that we will support the education costs of three 11-year-old students who have faced challenges due to the tragic earthquake in Gaziantep until they finish university.
She expressed her happiness that this initiative has mobilized others as well.

We decided to turn this event into a campaign, and then agreed with TED and TEV.
In response to the question of what kind of environment she prefers when writing, Sila said she writes in a "calm" environment while looking at her notes. She noted, "To write poetry, you should be interested in many fields including psychology, painting, sculpture; you must keep up with current issues, read well, and fall in love with what you do."

When asked about her favorite football team, Sila responded, "Galatasaray," explaining that her uncle made her a fan of this team. She added that her father is a fan of Fenerbahçe, which leads to discussions between them.
These days, I've talked about this topic a lot with Ilker Kaleli. Ilker says, "Your father is a Fenerbahçe fan; I am too! How can you be a Galatasaray fan?" In the end, these students and artists engaged in a conversation about their artistic future.
