Request for Two Years of Imprisonment for Deniz Akkaya

The Turkish prosecutor has requested a two-year prison sentence for Deniz Akkaya. This sentence was issued due to her insult towards Selin Cigerci through mass communication tools. Interestingly, Deniz Akkaya had previously faced another legal case.

Charge of Insulting Selin Cigerci

This case arose when Selin Cigerci filed a complaint against Deniz Akkaya in 2021 for calling her a "thief" on social media. This complaint led the prosecutor to initiate a legal case against Akkaya.

Judicial Proceedings in Court

Deniz Akkaya

During the trial held at the Beykoz Criminal Court, the prosecutor, in their plea, stated that Deniz Akkaya had publicly insulted Selin Cigerci through communication tools. Accordingly, the prosecutor requested a sentence of two years and two months in prison for the accused.

"The prosecutor requested the conviction of Deniz Akkaya for public insult through audio, written, and visual communications."

After listening to the defenses of both parties, the court decided to give the accused an opportunity to defend herself, and therefore, postponed the hearing.

Previous Cases of Deniz Akkaya

This is not the first time Deniz Akkaya has faced legal troubles. She was recently convicted in another case for insulting and threatening the judge handling her daughter's custody case on social media, and was sentenced to 5 years and 11 months in prison. In that case, the judge issued a house arrest sentence for her, which was later lifted, but her travel ban remains in effect.

The Legal Future of Akkaya

Given the current legal situation, if convicted in the new case, Deniz Akkaya may face additional legal restrictions. The court has postponed the case to future sessions for further review of any remaining deficiencies.
