Rize-Artvin Airport Surpasses 2.8 Million Passengers
Rize-Artvin Airport, which is considered the second airport built on the sea in Turkey, has played a significant role in facilitating the transportation of passengers, tourists, and local residents.
This airport, which was inaugurated on May 14, 2022, in the presence of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, has so far served nearly 2.8 million passengers.
Economic and Tourism Impact of Rize-Artvin Airport
Since its operation, this airport has contributed to the growth of tourism while providing comfortable and fast services to both domestic and international passengers. Rize Governor İhsan Selim Baydaş described this airport as one of Turkey's largest engineering projects and highlighted its importance in the region's economy.
Turkey's Second Marine Airport
Rize-Artvin Airport has been entirely built on the sea and is one of the few airports in the world with this feature. Governor Baydaş provided statistics on passenger numbers:
"In 2022, 524,000 people used this airport. In 2023, this number exceeded 1,022,000 passengers. Last year, we also saw an increase in the number of passengers to 1.1 million."
Benefits of the Airport for the Region
Governor Baydaş emphasized that this airport is a profitable investment for the region, providing faster access to the country's commercial centers such as Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, and the Marmara region. Additionally, this airport is used not only by Rize province but also by Artvin and even some parts of Trabzon province.
Increasing Demand from Neighboring Countries
In addition to domestic passengers, there is a growing demand from Georgia to use this airport. It is expected that in the future, more domestic and international flights will operate from here.

According to the governor, the airport plays a vital role in the growth of the tourism industry and the expansion of the hospitality sector in the region. Additionally, the development of the food and restaurant industry will be directly impacted by the increasing number of travelers and tourists.
Finally, Governor Baydaş described this airport as one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the region and expressed his gratitude to all individuals and organizations involved in its construction.
