Annual Savings of 25.3 Billion Lira with the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge
The Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, announced that the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge has provided services to approximately 7 million vehicles over the past three years. He added that this bridge, together with the Malkara-Çanakkale Highway, has brought a total annual economic saving of 25.3 billion lira to the country.
A Project for Continuous Road Connectivity
Uraloğlu explained that the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge and the 101-kilometer Malkara-Çanakkale Highway have provided uninterrupted road access across the Çanakkale Strait over the past three years. Referring to the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey, he mentioned that this bridge is considered one of the country's most important transportation projects. This bridge has earned the title of the world's longest suspension bridge with a 2023-meter main span.
The World's Longest Suspension Bridge
The Minister of Transport emphasized that the total length of the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge is 3,563 meters, and with the 365- and 680-meter approach viaducts, the total crossing length reaches 4,608 meters. The 318-meter steel towers of the bridge were built in honor of the Çanakkale Victory, and with the 16-meter cannonball symbols commemorating Seyit Onbaşı, the total height reaches 334 meters.
Recorded in History as the Longest Twin-Deck Suspension Bridge
Uraloğlu announced that this bridge has been recorded as the world's longest twin-deck suspension bridge and is considered a significant part of Turkey's national development movement.
Crossing the Strait in Just 6 Minutes
He highlighted the vital role of this bridge in completing the Marmara Motorway Ring and added that the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge, as the most critical crossing point of the Kınalı-Tekirdağ-Çanakkale-Savaştepe Highway, has enabled uninterrupted road connectivity across the Çanakkale Strait, reducing the crossing time to 6 minutes.
Advanced Equipment for Greater Safety
Uraloğlu also pointed out that this bridge and the Malkara-Çanakkale Highway are equipped with intelligent transportation systems and include a 225,250-meter fiber optic infrastructure, incident detection systems, meteorological stations, and emergency call systems to enhance safety and management.
Significant Savings and Reduced Environmental Pollution
Uraloğlu stated that the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge has provided services to approximately 7 million vehicles in the past three years and added: This project saves 24 billion lira annually through time savings and 1.3 billion lira from fuel savings, totaling 25.3 billion lira in annual savings.
