Turkey's Exports to Portugal Hit a Record

In February, Turkey's exports to Portugal reached 150.6 million dollars, setting a new record. Among these, the automotive sector had the largest share in this achievement.

Positive Trend in Turkey's Exports to the European Union

While Turkey continues to develop its economic relations with the European Union, its exports to this region are still experiencing a positive trend. Despite the slowdown in economic activities in Europe, this region remained Turkey's most important export market last month.

According to statistics, Turkey's exports to EU member states increased by 0.3% in February compared to the same month last year, reaching 8 billion dollars. Exports to this region accounted for approximately 40% of Turkey's total exports.

Record-Breaking Exports to Portugal

Meanwhile, Portugal, as one of the key markets, witnessed a significant increase in imports from Turkey. Data from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) shows that in February, Turkey recorded its highest monthly export value to Portugal with 150.6 million dollars. This figure represents a 20% increase compared to February of last year.

Automotive Sector Leading the Exports

A review of the sectors shows that the automotive industry led the exports to Portugal with 47.8 million dollars. It was followed by the steel sector with 31.9 million dollars, textile and raw materials with 20.2 million dollars, chemicals and products with 15.5 million dollars, and the electric-electronics sector with 7.8 million dollars.

Other Key Export Sectors

Exports to Portugal also included other sectors such as machinery and equipment with 6.8 million dollars, ferrous and non-ferrous metals with 5.6 million dollars, HVAC industry with 4.2 million dollars, ready-made garments and textiles with 2.2 million dollars, and aquatic and animal products with 2 million dollars.

Thus, 9 out of the top 10 main export sectors to Portugal in February belonged to the industrial sector.

Steel Leads Export Growth

Among the sectors, the steel industry recorded the highest growth in exports to Portugal with an increase of 22 million dollars. It was followed by automotive with a growth of 16.5 million dollars, machinery and equipment with 3 million dollars, ready-made garments and textiles with 1.3 million dollars, and chemicals and products with 1.2 million dollars.

Provinces Leading in Exports to Portugal

Geographically, various Turkish provinces played a prominent role in these exports. The province of Istanbul topped the list with exports worth 38.7 million dollars, followed by Bursa with 29.4 million dollars, Hatay with 22.9 million dollars, Sakarya with 7.8 million dollars, and Kahramanmaraş with 7.4 million dollars.

According to TİM data, Portugal has become one of Turkey's strategic markets in the field of exports.
