Tourist influx to the historic city of Mardin during Eid al-Fitr holidays
The historic city of Mardin hosted a massive wave of domestic and international tourists during the 9-day Eid al-Fitr holiday. During this time, more than 200,000 people visited the city.
Full capacity at Mardin’s accommodations
During the holidays, all hotels and accommodations in Mardin, with a capacity of around 20,000 beds, were fully booked, reaching 100 percent occupancy.
Historic attractions and local foods received great attention
Tourists, by visiting the city’s mosques, old schools, churches, and monasteries, were fascinated by its architecture and historical ambiance. Also, local delicacies such as almond candy and dishes with geographical indications attracted a lot of attention.
Accommodation in surrounding cities due to lack of space
Due to the shortage of lodging in Mardin, some visitors had to stay in surrounding cities. Nevertheless, the large presence of tourists brought joy to tourism professionals and local shopkeepers.
Significant increase in visits to historical buildings and museums

Ayhan Gök, the Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism, stated that with the support of the Governor and Acting Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality, Tuncay Akkoyun, significant efforts have been made to develop tourism in Mardin. He said:
"During the Eid al-Fitr holidays, Mardin experienced heavy tourist traffic. All hotels, guesthouses, and accommodations reached full capacity. More than 200,000 domestic and international tourists visited Mardin. The city center, historical buildings, and museums received great attention. Especially, Dara Ancient City alone hosted more than 100,000 tourists during the holiday. This trend is expected to continue throughout the tourism season."
