Turkish Fashion Designer Atıl Kutoğlu Awarded Silver Medal of Honor in Austria
Atıl Kutoğlu, the renowned Turkish fashion designer, received the Silver Medal of Honor in a ceremony held at Vienna City Hall, recognizing his contributions to the state of Vienna. The event was attended by numerous artists and politicians.
Ceremony Highlights
Among the attendees were Ambassador Levent Eler, Turkey’s Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Vienna, Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı, and Kathi Nehammer, wife of Austria’s former Prime Minister. The award was presented by Veronica Kaup-Hasler on behalf of Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig.
Reception at the Turkish Embassy
A reception was later hosted at Turkey’s Embassy in Vienna, with the participation of Austria’s former Education Minister Johannes Hahn. Turkish Ambassador Gürsel Dönmez praised Kutoğlu, stating:
“His works are not only aesthetically valuable but also unite diverse cultures and colors in a universal language.”
Kutoğlu’s Reflections
Kutoğlu expressed pride in receiving the award, noting:
“I have always highlighted my Turkish identity in Austria. I incorporated Anatolian, Ottoman, and Turkish traditional arts motifs into my designs. This distinguished me not only in Vienna but also in Paris and New York.”

He emphasized: “As a fashion designer, I have acted as a bridge between Turkey and Austria, helping foster better understanding between the two nations.”
Future Vision
Kutoğlu, who finds deep inspiration in Anatolia, stated his wish to represent Turkey across all European capitals with fashion shows.
