Legendary Yeşilçam Actor Engin Çağlar Laid to Rest
Engin Çağlar, one of the iconic stars of Yeşilçam (Turkish classic cinema), has passed away at the age of 85 after a motorcycle accident. His funeral was held at Şişli Mosque and he was laid to rest in Zincirlikuyu Cemetery, surrounded by family, friends, and colleagues from the arts community.
Çağlar starred in unforgettable films such as Kınalı Yapıncak, Feride, Makber, and If Dreams Came True.
Farewell from the Film Industry
Many renowned actors, including Nuri Alço, Ediz Hun, Teoman Ayık, and Ali Rıza Binboğa, attended the funeral. His wife, Filiz Vural Çağlar, told reporters:
“Everyone is here, and everyone’s heart is with us. The lawyers are now handling the case.”
His son, Eser Övet, expressed grief, saying his father was “healthy, active, and full of life” and still had many film projects planned.
Tributes from Fellow Actors
Ediz Hun described him as “a true cinema man,” adding that stricter traffic discipline is needed for motorcycle riders. Kıvanç Terzioğlu from Film-San said Çağlar was set to receive an honorary award later this month.
Halil Ergün Recreates the Iconic ‘Leaf Fall’ Scene
In a touching moment, veteran actor Halil Ergün, aged 79, recreated the final scene of the beloved TV series “Yaprak Dökümü” (The Fall of Leaves) during a live television appearance and was moved to tears.
He said:
“It felt like reliving an iconic moment. Wherever I go in Turkey, people embrace me with love. The entire cast was incredible; it was like cinema on TV.”
Personal Reflections and Memories
Ergün also revealed that the first novel he ever read was Reşat Nuri Güntekin’s Yaprak Dökümü, which the series was based on.
“While filming my death scene, I went outside to feel that farewell moment — it deeply affected me,” he said.
The series, which aired between 2006 and 2010, remains one of Turkey’s most memorable dramas, reflecting family values and societal change.
