Tension at Fenerbahçe High Council Meeting; Aziz Yıldırım's Harsh Reaction Makes Headlines

The latest Fenerbahçe High Council meeting, attended by the club’s prominent figures, was overshadowed by a verbal clash between Aziz Yıldırım and the current board members. Yıldırım’s harsh response to some of the remarks quickly spread across social media and became one of the hot topics in Turkey’s sports scene.

What happened at the Fenerbahçe High Council meeting?

This session, held ahead of the extraordinary election in September, brought together figures like Ali Koç, Aziz Yıldırım, Sadettin Saran, Mahmut Uslu, and Hakan Bilal Kutlualp. The tension started right at the beginning with a statement from Ali Koç, who addressed Yıldırım, saying:

“Mr. Aziz, you’ve still kept your same style. Of course, we’ll have a response too. I didn’t want the meeting to come to this point.”

After him, Hamdi Akın took the stage and gave explanations about the club’s debt structure. He pointed out that Fenerbahçe’s 265 million dollar debt to the Banks Association in 2018 has now decreased to 69 million dollars, but at the same time, the club’s total obligations have risen to 334 million dollars.

These remarks prompted Aziz Yıldırım to respond angrily:

“Sit down, Hamdi! You’re being very rude. Stop bothering, just sit where you are.”

Hamdi Akın immediately replied, “Isn’t anyone going to answer him?” The discussion escalated to the topic of the private box as well. Recalling his past, Yıldırım said, “I went to prison for this club,” to which Akın responded, “A legendary president shouldn't have given up his box.”

Dispute over land sales

Another point of contention was the sale of the club’s lands. Aziz Yıldırım claimed, “An agreement was made for 300 million dollars, but they said excluding Ataşehir.” Hamdi Akın responded:

“If you're truly sincere, I’ll pay the 300 million dollars on Monday and convince Ali Koç too.”

Yıldırım replied, “Don’t get involved in this matter. Ali Koç knows the facts.”

Ali Koç also spoke during the meeting, saying:

“Mr. President, rest assured. During your time, you said we were running the club like a grocery store, but now it’s managed based on international standards and in an institutional way. There wasn't even data available from before 2014. If you wish, you can have my box too.”
