13 Fenerbahçe players called up to national teams
Fenerbahçe Club, after a draw against Samsunspor in week 28 of the Turkish Super League and a halt in the championship race, has now, with the end of the week’s matches and the start of international fixtures, sent 13 of its players to various national teams.
Yusuf Akçiçek called up to Turkey senior national team
Yusuf Akçiçek, Fenerbahçe’s young player, who appeared this season in 6 matches in the starting lineup in the Europa League under Mourinho, managed to catch the attention of Vincenzo Montella, head coach of Turkey’s national team, with his brilliant performance and was called up to the senior national team for the first time. This player has been present in various youth levels of Turkey’s national team since 2023.
Turkey ready to face Hungary in play-offs
The Turkish national team, after earning 11 points and finishing second in League B of the UEFA Nations League, qualified for the play-off stage. Montella’s team will first host Hungary on Thursday, March 20, in Istanbul, and then travel to Budapest on Sunday, March 23, for the return match.
Livakovic and Škriniar in Nations League play-offs
Dominik Livakovic, Fenerbahçe’s Croatian goalkeeper, was called up to his national team as Croatia finished among the top two teams in League A, and will face France in the quarter-finals. Also, Milan Škriniar, Fenerbahçe’s Slovak defender, whose national team finished second behind Sweden in League C, will face Slovenia on March 20 and 23 to fight for promotion to League B.
Džeko and Szymański start 2026 World Cup qualifiers
With the start of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Europe, Edin Džeko, Fenerbahçe’s Bosnian striker, was called up to his national team and will face Romania on Friday, March 21, in the first round. Bosnia will then host Cyprus three days later. On the other hand, Sebastian Szymański, the Polish midfielder of the team, will play against Lithuania on the same day and will later face Malta on Monday, March 24, in Poland.
World Cup qualifiers continue in Africa
In Africa, the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which started in November 2023, will continue in March with two matches for each team. Youssef En-Nesyri and Sofyan Amrabat, two key Fenerbahçe players, have been called up to the Moroccan national team. Morocco will face Niger and Tanzania in this stage and currently leads its group with 9 points from three matches.
For Nigeria as well, Bright Osayi-Samuel, who played in all four of his team's previous matches, is included in the squad to face Rwanda and Zimbabwe. Nigeria stands fifth in its group with only 3 points from four matches.
On the other hand, the Ghana national team, which includes Alexander Djiku, Fenerbahçe’s defender, has collected 9 points from four matches and is in a better position. Ghana will face Chad on March 21, and then travel to Madagascar on March 24.
