The Return of Cold and Rainy Weather: Warning for Heavy Rain, Storms, and Snow

The regions of Eastern Black Sea, Eastern Mediterranean, Eastern Anatolia, and Eastern Central Anatolia will experience rain, storms, and snowfall. Temperatures across the country are expected to drop significantly below seasonal averages.

Heavy Rainfall Forecast in the Eastern Black Sea

According to the Turkish Meteorological Authority, rainfall starting as showers and thunderstorms in the Eastern Black Sea will gradually intensify and continue strongly in the areas of Ordu, Giresun, Trabzon, Rize, Artvin, Gümüşhane and Bayburt.

It is expected that in the coastal regions, the precipitation will mainly be in the form of rain and showers, but in the western parts, there will be a mix of rain and snow, and in some areas, pure snow. Additionally, in the inland areas, there will be heavy snowfall, and in some cases, blizzards.

Snowfall in Eastern Anatolia and Central Anatolia

In Eastern Central Anatolia and the western parts of Eastern Anatolia, precipitation will start as rain and showers, then gradually intensify, covering areas such as Niğde, Kayseri, Sivas, Erzincan and Tunceli as well as the southeast of Konya, northern Malatya, Karaman, Aksaray, Nevşehir, Yozgat and eastern Tokat. These precipitations will gradually turn into a mix of rain and snow, and later into heavy snowfall and blizzards in some areas.

Precipitation Situation in the Eastern Mediterranean

In the Eastern Mediterranean, from the early morning hours, rainfall will begin in the regions of Adana and Osmaniye as well as western Kahramanmaraş as heavy showers and thunderstorms, and will gradually turn into a mix of rain and snow and later into heavy snowfall in the northern highlands.

Precipitation Forecast for Southeastern Eastern Anatolia

In Southeastern Eastern Anatolia, precipitation will fully cover the province of Hakkari, and in the southern parts of Bitlis, eastern Şırnak, and Siirt, as well as the northern areas of Batman and northeastern Diyarbakır, a mix of rain and snow is expected, with heavy snowfall in the higher elevations.

  • Istanbul: 9°C
  • Izmir: 15°C
  • Antalya: 16°C
  • Adana: 18°C
  • Diyarbakır: 21°C
  • Samsun: 7°C
  • Bursa: 8°C
  • Zonguldak: 7°C
  • Erzurum: 7°C

Safety Warnings

The Meteorological Authority has warned about risks related to rain and storms including floods, waterlogging, lightning, icy roads, frostbite, and potential disruptions in transportation and has emphasized the need for caution and adherence to safety measures.

It is expected that the cold and rainy weather system will leave the country as of March 23.
