Special Traffic Measures for Eid al-Fitr Holiday in Ankara
The Ankara Governorship announced that during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, special traffic measures have been put in place to ensure citizens' safe travel.
Expected Increase in Intercity Traffic
According to the statement from the governorship, the coincidence of the Eid al-Fitr holiday with the mid-term school break is expected to cause an increase in traffic volume on roads leading from major cities to other cities and tourist destinations.
Ban on the Passage of Certain Heavy Vehicles on a Specific Route
The statement emphasized that in order to maintain public peace, prevent traffic violations, ensure order and security, and manage traffic flow efficiently, the movement of heavy vehicles such as trucks, trailers, and tankers will be prohibited on the route from Ankara to İzmir on the D200 highway between Ankara and Sivrihisar from 16:00 on Thursday until 01:00 on Sunday, March 30. This ban also applies to all intermediate entry points along the route.
Exceptions for Supply Chain Continuity
However, to avoid disruption in the supply process, vehicles carrying perishable or essential goods will be exceptionally allowed to travel on this route. These items include:
- Fresh fruits and vegetables
- Live animals
- Meat and meat products
- Milk and dairy products
- Frozen foods
- Live or cut flowers
- Medicine and medical supplies
- Postal and periodical publications
- Animal feed
- Fuel and petroleum products
"Vehicles transporting these goods will only be allowed on main routes in cases of necessity and with consideration of time and route. Otherwise, they must use alternative roads."
This decision was made with the aim of managing smooth traffic flow and reducing the risk of accidents during the busy holiday period.
