Ban on Parking Non-Electric Vehicles at Certain Charging Stations in Ankara

According to a new decision by the Ankara Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME), from now on, only vehicles being charged are allowed to park in designated charging areas in some parts of the city. Parking any type of vehicle other than electric vehicles currently being charged is prohibited in these locations.

Complaint by the Operator Company Due to Financial Loss

A company that had won the contract to install electric vehicle charging stations in certain areas of Ankara filed a complaint with UKOME, stating that due to fossil fuel vehicles (gasoline and diesel) parking in these charging spots, they have been unable to provide services to electric vehicle users and have suffered financial losses.

6 Parking Areas Dedicated to Charging Electric Vehicles

After reviewing the matter, UKOME decided that 6 parking lots in the districts of Çankaya and Altındağ, with a total capacity of 36 vehicles, will be fully allocated to electric vehicles that are actively charging. This decision was made to support the development of clean transportation and to solve the issue of misuse of charging stations.

Installation of Parking Ban Warning Signs

As part of implementing this decision, traffic and road signs at these charging stations have been updated to include the following warning:

“Parking is prohibited except for vehicles being charged.”

This action could be an effective step towards improving access to electric vehicle charging infrastructure and reducing problems faced by users of such vehicles.
