Filiz Akın, the enduring star of Turkish cinema has passed away
Filiz Akın, one of the prominent figures of classic Turkish cinema and a symbolic member of the "Four-Leaf Clover" of Yeşilçam cinema, passed away at the age of 82 after years of battling illness.

Filiz Akın was recognized as one of the four main stars of Yeşilçam cinema alongside other great stars such as Türkan Şoray, Hülya Koçyiğit, and the late Fatma Girik. She struggled for years with various health problems.
What was Filiz Akın's illness?
Since the first of September, Akın was receiving treatment in Bodrum due to pneumonia and several other infections. As her condition worsened, by order of the Presidency and with the cooperation of the Ministry of Health, she was transferred on January 13 to a hospital in Istanbul by an ambulance plane.

The Turkish Ministry of Health confirmed the artist's death in a statement, stating:
"Filiz Akın, one of the prominent and unforgettable figures of Turkish cinema, has passed away after being hospitalized for a period. We pray for mercy for this late artist and extend our condolences to her family, friends, and the artistic community."
Cause of death of Filiz Akın
Akın had been hospitalized in Bodrum since September due to pneumonia and multiple infections. After being transferred to Istanbul, she ultimately could not overcome the illnesses due to a weakened immune system caused by old age. It is noteworthy that she had previously fought and overcome nasopharyngeal cancer in 2002 after successful treatment.
Who was Filiz Akın?
Filiz Akın was born on January 2, 1943, in Ankara. She was of Circassian descent on her father’s side and Albanian on her mother’s side. She completed her high school education at TED Ankara College and then studied archaeology at Ankara University. Her first cinematic experience was with the film “Akasiyalar Açarken” directed by Memduh Ün. After that, she starred in the film “Şakayla Karışık” alongside Ajda Pekkan.
She became memorable with the nickname “College Girl” and starred in 121 films. In 1976, Filiz Akın entered the music scene and performed as a Turkish classical music singer. The film “Yankesici Kız” released in 1964 was a turning point in her professional career. Akın also married the famous producer and director Türker İnanoğlu and began her married life.
