Death of the prominent artist Volkan Konak during performance
Volkan Konak, a renowned Turkish artist, suddenly suffered a severe health issue during a concert in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and collapsed on stage. According to reports, cardiac resuscitation efforts immediately began at the scene, but attempts to save his life were unsuccessful, and he passed away at the hospital.
Deterioration of condition during performance
This tragic incident occurred while Konak was performing live as part of his concert program in Northern Cyprus. During the performance of one of his pieces, he suddenly collapsed, causing concern among the audience.
Unsuccessful attempts at cardiac resuscitation
According to media reports, initial resuscitation measures began immediately after his collapse. Scenes of cardiac massage performed by those around and the technical staff were recorded. He was then transferred to Gazimağusa State Hospital.
Official confirmation of the death
The Ministry of Health of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus confirmed the artist’s death in an official statement.
"Volkan Konak was transferred to Mağusa State Hospital at 00:17 due to a sudden illness. Despite all efforts, he passed away at 00:42. Additional details will be provided in writing by the hospital administration."
Last moments on stage
Videos released of Konak's fall show that he suddenly lost consciousness during a performance of one of his pieces, and the orchestra members rushed to help him. These videos were recorded by mobile phones and have widely circulated on social media.
Biography and artistic career of Volkan Konak
Volkan Konak was born in 1967 in the village of Yeşilyurt, a district of Maçka in Trabzon. He completed his primary, middle, and high school education in his hometown and, in 1983, entered the music conservatory of Istanbul Technical University with encouragement from his teacher. He completed his undergraduate studies in 1988 and then his master’s degree in folk music in 1991.
Beginning of professional activity
Konak began his artistic career by collecting folk songs from the Maçka region, and in 1989, released his first album titled “Suların Horon Yeri.” He then started composing original songs and set poems by Nâzım Hikmet, Yaşar Miraç, Ömer Kayaoğlu, Sunay Akın, and Sabahattin Ali to music.
Development of a unique musical style
By blending elements of folk music with global musical patterns, he created an original and unique style. In 1993, he composed the famous piece “Efulim,” and in 1994, released the album “Gelir misin Benimle.” After military service, he prepared and released the album “Volkanik Parçalar” within three months.
Artistic successes and awards
Over the years of his career, Konak composed and released nearly 50 songs. He was selected as Artist of the Year by the Association of Journalists and various cultural organizations, and in 1997 received the Best Music Artist of the Year award from the magazine “Politika.”
Continuing the path with successful albums
In 2000, he released the album “Şimal Rüzgarı,” and in 2003, after a three-and-a-half-year break, released the album “Maranda.” In 2006, he once again met with his audience through the album “Mora.”
