Mahsun Kırmızıgül: This year was truly full of loss
Mahsun Kırmızıgül, in a meeting with his fans in Istanbul before his performance, responded to reporters’ questions. In an emotional speech, he expressed his sorrow over the passing of great Turkish artists in recent months.
This year we truly experienced an “autumn of falling leaves.” Ferdi Tayfur, then Edip Akbayram, Volkan Konak, dear Şinasi, Filiz Akın... We’re all deeply saddened. In a world where evil is so widespread, the departure of the good ones one by one is truly painful.
A brotherly relationship with Edip Akbayram
Mahsun Kırmızıgül went on to talk about his close and sincere relationship with Edip Akbayram:
We were like two brothers. The last time I saw him was last summer in Cappadocia. He came backstage holding a box of baklava. He was truly a big brother, and his place will never be filled.
Will there be a movie about these artists?
In response to a question about making a biographical film about the late artists, Mahsun Kırmızıgül said:
In the past ten years, very good biographical films have been made, but the current state of cinema is sad. Since the COVID era, cinema hasn’t been able to recover. With the economic crisis and the dominance of digital platforms, audiences have distanced themselves from the cinema, and I doubt they will return.
Return to stage after 17 years
Mahsun Kırmızıgül, who returned to the stage three years ago after a 17-year hiatus, spoke about the condition of his voice:
Believe me, even the voice rusts! I’m just starting to regain control of it.
He added:
Every time I go on stage, I feel the same excitement as the early days. That live connection with people is very valuable to me.
New song and jokes about past performances
Mahsun Kırmızıgül announced he had composed a new song and said:
I’ve created a new song, and I’ll be releasing it soon.
He also responded with humor to a question about the dance moves in his past performances:
Those dances were choreographed for me by foreign powers!
And he continued:
I made some mistakes in those days too, but who is without mistakes?
Love has no place in his life
In the end, reporters asked him about his personal life and whether there was someone in it. Mahsun Kırmızıgül replied:
You need to make time for people, and I don’t have that time.
