Ayta Sözeri: My father kindly kicked me out of the house
Ayta Sözeri, the well-known singer and actress, was a guest on the TV program "Aslı Şafak’la İşin Aslı" on Bloomberg HT. In this program, she shared heartfelt and impactful words about her personal and professional life.
“If my parents were alive, they would say well done to you”
In response to the question, “If your family were alive today, what would they say?”, Ayta Sözeri said:
“First of all, it was my family who raised me this way, and that’s how this personality was formed. If they were alive, they would probably say: well done to you. When my father kicked me out of the house, he did it very politely. He said: we raised you well, and I don't think you’ll be wasted. I wish I could have told him: look, I wasn’t wasted.”
“I was harshly attacked for performing on the day my mother died”
Ayta Sözeri also spoke about the reactions to something she did on one of the hardest days of her life:
“The day my mother died, I went on stage. But people wrote incredibly bad things. Like: how could you? Or: you don’t understand anything about family! But I had a responsibility toward those who were going to bring bread home that night.”
A 12-year relationship, quiet and lasting
The artist went on to talk about her emotional life, stating that she’s been in a relationship with someone for years without anyone knowing who it is:
“I’ve never had short-term relationships. The one I’m in now is the longest, and it’s been 12 years. No one has figured out who he is. They say every drum matches its own beat; we’re like two drums that found each other. Neither of us is jealous. Even after 12 years, I still don’t know his phone password.”
