End of a 6-Year Marriage: Bengü Reveals the Reason for the First Time
Bengü, the popular Turkish singer known for songs like “Ağla Kalbim”, “Saygımdan”, and “Yaralı”, has spoken for the first time about the reason for the end of her marriage to Selim Selimoğlu.
Bengü, who married Selim Selimoğlu in 2018, separated from him last year after six years of marriage through mutual agreement in a single court session. This couple, previously among the most recognized faces in Turkey’s music and media scene, has two children named Zeynep and Selim.
A Marriage That Began with Love
Bengü married Selim Selimoğlu in 2018 after being in a relationship with him for 1.5 years. In 2019, they welcomed their first child, a daughter named Zeynep. Then in 2021, with the birth of their son Selim, they experienced parenthood for the second time.
They were considered one of the model couples in Turkish media until news of their separation broke last year.
Bengü’s Statement on the End of Her Marriage
In an interview with the media, Bengü revealed the reason for the separation for the first time. She said that although the marriage began with love, differences in expectations and opinions made it impossible to continue living together.
“We married for love, and God granted us two beautiful children. But sometimes marriage cannot continue due to various reasons. We both tried very hard, but over time we began to suffer. This separation never happened in a bitter way.”
Response to Cheating Rumors
There had been rumors of infidelity related to the separation, but Bengü firmly denied them. She emphasized that there was no such betrayal involved and that their relationship ended with full respect.
“There was absolutely no such thing. We didn’t even raise our voices during the separation. A marriage might not last, but we will forever remain the parents of our two beautiful children. My ex-husband, thankfully, does everything he can. There’s no problem between us and we’re both happy. Of course, we didn’t want it to end, but it turned out for the better this way.”
