Meral Kaplan Handcuffed from Behind; Actress Breaks into Tears on the Way to Court
Meral Kaplan, who was detained in connection with a case of 23 million lira fraud, broke into tears while being transferred to court handcuffed from behind. She said about the case: “I didn’t deceive anyone. I was only questioned about someone I knew, I answered the questions and returned home.”
According to a complaint by E.Y. to the Anti-Fraud Department, an individual named S.Ö. (51 years old) introduced himself as a director of a foundation and received a total of 23 million lira from the complainant over several installments for the sale of a piece of land in Arnavutköy. However, as time passed without the sale taking place, the complainant realized he had been deceived and filed charges against S.Ö and others involved.
5 People Arrested
During the investigation, police arrested five people including S.Ö. The names of those arrested are: S.Ö, D.Ö (28 years old), A.Ş (38 years old), N.T (45 years old), and M.D (26 years old). Two unlicensed firearms and a large quantity of bullets were also seized.
Funds Were Transferred to Meral Kaplan’s Account
Police investigations revealed that part of the 23 million lira paid for the land was transferred to the bank account of Meral Kaplan. The actress was detained by the police, and in her initial questioning, she denied the charges and claimed that the money had been transferred to her account by a friend.
3 People Imprisoned; Meral Kaplan Released
Among the suspects, S.Ö, D.Ö, and A.Ş were sent to prison by court order. However, Meral Kaplan and the other suspects were released under judicial control.
Meral Kaplan’s Reaction on Social Media
Following the publication of images showing Meral Kaplan handcuffed on her way to court, she responded to the controversy through her personal social media account.
“I have never been involved in real estate transactions in my life. I don’t understand deeds, land, or property. I didn’t deceive anyone, on the contrary, I’ve always been the one who got deceived. When I was at home, I was surprised to read that I had been detained. I was only questioned about someone I knew, I answered, and I returned home.”
She continued: “My lawyer, Şeyda Yıldırım, is following up on the case. As a mother, I ask you to show sensitivity in this matter. I have nothing more to say about it.”
