Ezhel Criticizes Turkey Through Greek National Anthem, Sparks Widespread Reactions
Famous rapper Ezhel, known for his sharp political stances and controversial remarks, stirred public debate after commenting on a social media post about the Greek national anthem, criticizing Turkey. He stated that "as long as the word Turk does not evoke nobility, justice, and happiness, I feel ashamed of being Turkish."
Controversial Comment on Instagram Post
The controversy began when the Instagram account "Kültürsüz" shared a list titled "Countries with the word Turk in their national anthems." In the comments section, Ezhel used the Greek national anthem as a basis to criticize Turkey.
Full Statement by Ezhel
"When we realize we have oppressed others, Turkishness can regain its lost strength. We wrote these anthems because we enjoyed oppression. We must be known for justice; only then will we have served our nation. Let us admit our mistakes. How far can we progress by taking pride in killing people? Unless the word Turk stands for nobility, justice, and happiness, I am ashamed of my Turkishness. That’s how it is."
Social Media Reactions
Many users responded to Ezhel’s remarks with comments such as:
- "You eat this country’s bread and talk like this – that’s ungrateful."
- "We are proud of being Turkish."
- "This doesn’t suit you, Ezhel."
Previous Controversies
This is not the first time Ezhel has caused controversy. A few months ago, after winning a defamation lawsuit, he announced he would donate the compensation money to the Turkish Veterans and Martyrs’ Families Foundation (TÜGŞAV). However, the foundation rejected the donation, stating:
"We do not accept donations from anyone who has been associated with supporting terrorist organizations and is banned from entering the Republic of Turkey. Should he be cleared of charges and allowed to enter Turkey, he can make the donation in person."
