Fourth marriage ends by mutual consent
Turkish singer Ebru Gündeş divorced businessman Murat Özdemir through a mutual consent process. The hearing was held at Beykoz Adliyesi; Gündeş did not attend due to being abroad and was represented by her lawyer.
Because the case was uncontested, proceedings concluded quickly. Neither party sought alimony or compensation.
Gündeş’s statement on the split
Gündeş had recently announced the decision to divorce, citing differences of opinion that emerged during the marriage. She stressed that mutual respect and friendship would continue.
“We began our marriage with great love, though it came together in a short time, but unfortunately we have decided to separate due to differences of opinion that arose over time. Although our marriage has ended, our respect and friendship will remain. I extend my sincere thanks in advance to everyone who stood by us and acted with sensitivity. With respect.”
Proceedings at Beykoz Adliyesi
The hearing took place yesterday at Beykoz Adliyesi. Owing to the amicable nature of the case, the legal process was smooth and swift.
With this, Gündeş has ended her fourth marriage. She is 49 and married Murat Osman Özdemir in Dubai in February 2024; he is 12 years younger.
Reasons cited in the petition
The petition submitted to the court cited intellectual and psychological incompatibility, stating that the marital union had become unsustainable. It described a breakdown in the foundation of the marriage.
It was also noted that neither side filed any financial claims, including alimony or damages, a notable aspect of the split.
Previous marriages
Gündeş had previously married three times: to Hamdi Vardar from 1991 to 1993, to Ömer Durak from 2002 to 2003, and to Reza Zarrab from 2010 to 2021.
Her latest separation from Murat Özdemir means another attempt at marital stability has ended, though she emphasized that respect and friendship would endure.
