Jasmine Series Removed from TV+
The series “Jasmine”, which was streamed on the TV+ platform under a joint licensing agreement with HBO Max, has been removed from the platform due to the presence of explicit scenes. This decision came after an official review was initiated by the Radio and Television Supreme Council of Türkiye (RTÜK).
RTÜK had previously announced that it had launched an investigation into the series on the grounds that its content was contrary to public morality, family structure, and social values. Following this move, TV+, which holds a joint licensing agreement with HBO Max, decided to withdraw the series entirely from its broadcast lineup.
RTÜK Launches Official Review
In an official statement, the Radio and Television Supreme Council outlined the reasons for initiating the review, emphasizing that the content of the series “Jasmine” conflicted with the fundamental principles upheld by Turkish society.
“Attention to the public: An investigation has been initiated by the Radio and Television Supreme Council regarding the digital production titled ‘Jasmine,’ broadcast on a digital platform, due to content that targets the family structure forming the foundation of Turkish society, clearly contradicts our national and moral values, exploits women, and violates public morality.”
RTÜK also reiterated its long-standing position that broadcasting activities must adhere to society’s moral values, cultural fabric, and especially the institution of the family, stressing that this responsibility is even more significant in digital media environments.
“Considering the impact of content broadcast on digital platforms on broad segments of society, particularly young people and children, this responsibility carries even greater importance.”
Commitment to Decisive Measures
The council further stated that monitoring and evaluation processes are being carried out meticulously by its experts and that necessary measures will be taken decisively within the framework of the relevant legislation.
“Reviews conducted by our Monitoring and Evaluation Experts regarding broadcasts that harm the family structure, target social values, and disturb public conscience through normalization are continuing with diligence, and the necessary steps will be taken resolutely in accordance with the applicable legislation.”
RTÜK concluded by affirming that, as in the past, it will continue to fulfill its duty to protect the moral and cultural values of society and will persist in taking all necessary precautions against broadcasts that undermine the family institution and damage social structure. This announcement was respectfully submitted to the public.
