Additional statement by Ela Rümeysa Cebeci revealed: “I did not know that drug use was a crime”
Within the scope of the drug investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, which has shaken the media world, former broadcaster Ela Rümeysa Cebeci, who is currently detained, submitted an additional statement at her own request. According to information obtained by CNN Türk reporter Merve Tokaz, Cebeci admitted that she had used drugs in the past, while firmly rejecting allegations related to drug sales.
In her statement, Cebeci said that she did not know that drug use was considered a crime, explaining that she made this mistake because she believed such use was legal abroad.
“I did not know it was a crime”
Ela Rümeysa Cebeci stated that she had previously said she had never used drugs, but decided to give an additional statement in order to fully reveal the truth. She said:
“I have never sold drugs to anyone. I voluntarily handed over my phone passwords. I did not give drugs to anyone.”
Despite evidence found in blood tests and WhatsApp messages, Cebeci emphasized that she was only a user in the past and had no involvement in selling or distributing drugs.
She further stated:
“I have never used cocaine or chemical drugs. I did not know that cannabis use was a crime. I made this mistake because I thought it was legal abroad.”
“I am not a dealer, I am a user”
Requesting that hair and blood samples be taken again, Ela Rümeysa Cebeci once more underlined her position by saying:
“I am not a drug dealer, I am a user.”
Details of her relationship with Sadettin Saran
Another notable part of the additional statement concerned her relationship with businessman and Fenerbahçe Club President Sadettin Saran. Cebeci said:
“In 2021, I had a relationship with Sadettin Saran as my boyfriend. After that, we remained friends.”
Ela Rümeysa Cebeci was initially detained and later released during the investigation. However, after traces of drug use were detected in the forensic medicine report, she was arrested again on charges of “facilitating drug use.” Following her additional statement, she was sent back to prison.
The investigation continues to expand with the arrest of other names, including Mehmet Akif Ersoy.
