Can Yaman Breaks Silence After Release: “If the Allegations Were True, I Would Not Have Been Freed”
Turkish actor Can Yaman, who was taken into custody and later released as part of an investigation involving well-known public figures, broke his silence for the first time in Rome. Choosing to speak to the Italian media instead of the Turkish press, Yaman responded firmly to the allegations made against him.
Can Yaman, who was detained during a new phase of an investigation related to drug and prostitution allegations, categorically denied all claims and openly criticized the Turkish media for its coverage.
As part of the operation targeting several famous names, seven people were taken into custody, including Can Yaman, Selen Görgüzel, Ayşe Sağlam, and Ceren Alper.
During the investigation, police conducted operations at Bebek Otel in Beşiktaş as well as several entertainment venues. Can Yaman was detained following claims that drugs were found on him during a nightclub raid, but he was later released after completing police procedures.
“If these allegations were true, I would not have been released so quickly, nor would I have been able to return to Italy the very next day.”
Immediately after his release, Can Yaman returned to Rome and shared a statement on social media addressed to the Italian press. In his message, he stated that the Turkish media had always treated him unfairly and urged Italian outlets not to blindly repeat reports coming from Turkey.
“Dear Italian media… the Turkish press has always treated me badly, this is nothing new. But please do not copy and paste news coming from the Bosphorus. At a time when the police are conducting tough investigations and many celebrities are being detained, do you really think I would be walking around with drugs? If that were true, I would not have been released, nor would I have returned to Italy the next day.”
Having left Turkey approximately five years ago and rebuilt his career in Italy, Can Yaman emphasized his strong connection to the country and ended his statement with the words, “I love you.”
Yaman’s decision to address the Italian public rather than Turkish audiences sparked widespread discussion on social media and drew significant public attention.
