Caner Cindoruk Criticizes Casting Based on Social Media Follower Counts
Actor Caner Cindoruk (Caner Cindoruk) expressed his reaction to the industry's preference for selecting actors based on their social media follower counts during a program he attended. Cindoruk stated,
“We need to choose good actors, not those with the most followers.”
The successful actor made notable statements on a program hosted by Elcin Ates (Elçin Ateş) on Dolu TV. Criticizing certain preferences in the acting industry, Cindoruk said he opposes prioritizing social media popularity over talent in projects.
Stating that he has personally witnessed this situation in the industry, Cindoruk used the following expressions:
“I have witnessed people being promoted solely because their follower counts are high. I have seen the mindset of ‘Wait, their Instagram following is higher; let’s cast them’ operating on sets or within projects.”
“We Must Choose the One Who Is Good, Not the One With Followers”
Emphasizing that he does not find this approach correct, the actor stated that choices should be talent-oriented rather than focused on popularity: “I am against this; we need to choose the good actor, not the one with more followers.”
Speaking about audience expectations, Cindoruk mentioned that viewers do not only want to see popular names.
“People are now tired of watching stars or names with high follower counts. The audience now wants to watch a truly good story,”the actor said, arguing that audience preferences are being misinterpreted.
Cindoruk continued his criticism by saying, “In the industry, it is always said ‘This is what the audience wants,’ but I don’t believe that. I think what is being done here is directly underestimating the audience.” The actor added that poor-quality choices should not be attributed to the viewers.
