Record-breaking Achievements at Sabiha Gökçen at the End of Eid al-Fitr Holiday
Istanbul's Sabiha Gökçen International Airport managed to set new records in five different categories on the last day of the Eid al-Fitr holiday, which was April 6. These records included the total number of daily passengers, number of international passengers, number of arriving passengers, number of departing flights, and total international flights.
According to the official announcement on the airport’s social media accounts, on April 6, 141,931 passengers were transported through this airport.
Significant Increase in International Flights
On this day, the number of international passengers reached 82,498 people. Additionally, the number of arriving passengers through international flights was reported as 41,959 people.
On Sunday, 458 international flights were operated, of which 236 flights were departures to other countries.
In total, these figures indicate that Sabiha Gökçen Airport managed to break records in total daily passenger count, international passengers, arriving passengers, departing flights, and total international flights.
Sabiha Gökçen: Turkey’s Second Busiest Airport and Tenth in Europe
ISG Airport, as the second busiest airport in Turkey and the tenth busiest in Europe, had also recorded another milestone on March 29. On that day, the number of domestic passengers was 65,864 and international passengers 75,296, bringing the total to 141,160 passengers.
On the same day, the number of domestic flights reached 344 flights and international flights 433 flights, breaking the record for the highest number of flights in a single day with 777 flights.
Unprecedented Record on April 6
On the last day of the holiday, April 6, ISG operated 757 flights, serving 59,433 domestic passengers and 82,498 international passengers. These numbers show that the highest daily passenger traffic in the airport’s history was recorded.
The previous record in the international passenger category, which had been set on January 26 with 78,265 people, was also broken.
Overall Achievements During the Holiday Period
During the period from March 28 to April 6, a total of 7,166 flights were operated at ISG, including 3,078 domestic flights and 4,088 international flights.
During this period, 582,945 domestic passengers and 701,656 international passengers used the airport’s services, bringing the total number of passengers to 1,284,601 people.
Target for the New Year
ISG ended last year with a record of 41.5 million passengers. This year, the goal is to reach 43.2 million passengers in order to gain a larger share of the international market.
