İrem Derici’s striking reaction: A negative result should already be the norm
İrem Derici, the well-known Turkish singer whose name appeared among the first individuals detained during drug-related operations targeting celebrities, shared a pointed message on social media criticizing how negative test results are being portrayed. She stressed that a negative outcome should not be framed as a special achievement.
Stating that her own test result was negative, Derici said she finds the excessive praise surrounding such results unnecessary. According to her, a negative test result is simply what should be expected, not something that deserves extraordinary applause.
“I’ve been at the center of this agenda since the very beginning. Yes, my test result is negative, but applauding those with negative results as something extra does not make sense to me, because this is exactly how it should be.”
Derici also criticized the broader media narrative, arguing that presenting negative results as a success story is strange and misleading. She believes this approach shifts attention away from the fact that staying clean should be the standard, not an exception.
“Hearing comments like ‘well done, you managed to stay clean in this industry’ sounds very odd to me. What kind of industry is this? Are we being punished that staying clean is treated as something extraordinary?”
In earlier statements made during the first days of the operation, İrem Derici had already said she was confident her test results would come back clean. She even stated that, if necessary, she would be willing to walk from neighborhood to neighborhood, from street to street with the results to prove full transparency.
